The FIA Formula E Championship is full of Rules and Regulations to ensure that the Championship is fair, competitive and above all safe. From controlling the speed and efficiency of the cars in their development to preventing a serious accident involving track marshals during a race, the Rules and Regulations are also available to the public to provide more understanding for fans.
Regulations[]
The Formula E Championship utilises a range of regulations to keep the racing safe and competitive, with the development of each car controlled.[1] The FIA also provide a set of regulations surrounding the competition, which controls both the Championship and the race day itself.[1]
Technical[]
The Technical Regulations for the 2015/16 season have been slightly opened to allow limited development of the Spark-Renault SRT_01E.[1] Eight manufacturers were allowed to enter the Championship, with each allowed to develop the powertrain, either using an improved version of McLaren's original design, or constructing the own original one.[2] Specifically, manufacturers may modify the motors, inverters, gearboxes and cooling systems of their designs, with batteries exclusively provided by Williams.[2]
Otherwise, the Championship is heavily restricted to keep costs down. Season Three is expected to see the Manufacturers expand their efforts to the batteries, although Spark will still design the chassis and body work.[1] The FIA have the option to control the maximum energy level allowed to be used, which for 2015/16 has been raised to 170 kw (228bhp) in races.[1]
Competitive[]
The FIA control how the Championship is run from a competitors point of view, controlling the points allocation, licences and scrutineering.[1] The current points are allocated from 1st to 10th place finishers in each ePrix, with additional points going to the pole setter and fastest lap.[1] Their tally from ten of the eleven rounds are added together (their lowest finish dropped), with drivers then ranked according to their points, then number of wins.[1]

New for 2015/16 is the inclusion of the e-Licence, which every driver who wishes to compete in the Championship must hold.[1] To hold an e-Licence a driver must have attended a safety briefing run by the FIA as well as holding 20 points according to the F1 Super Licence scale.[1]
