Karun Chandhok, born 19 January 1984, is a former driver from the FIA Formula E Championship, who raced for Mahindra Racing in the inaugural 2014/15 season.[1] Chandhok started well at the first two ePrix, but his form deserted him as the season progressed, as he fell to seventeenth after scoring eighteen points.

Chandhok would be dropped by Mahindra at the end of the season, the Indian racer returning to the realm of broadcasting as his seat was taken by Nick Heidfeld.

Background[]

Chandhok began his career in the Indian National Championship in 2000, taking the title in his debut year.[1] 2001 saw Chandhok race in the Formula Asia Championship, before he moved to Europe and Formula Three.[1] A return to Asia saw Chandhok take the Asian Renault V6 Series, which saw him obtain a drive in GP2.[1] Chandhok raced for HRT and Team Lotus between 2010 and 2011 in Formula One, before failing to obtain a drive in 2012.[1]

After switching to a temporary career in broadcasting, Chandhok began competing in sports cars, competing in LMP2 in the FIA World Endurance Championship and, in 2014, the FIA GT Series.[1]

Formula E History[]

Chandhok was the first driver announced to compete for Indian backed Mahindra Racing in the 2014/15 season, later joined by Brazilian Bruno Senna.[1] A successful debut gave Chandhok ten points for finishing fifth at the 2014 Beijing ePrix, followed by a sixth place finish in Putrajaya. By the halfway point in the season, he and team mate Senna were equal on points.

But, Chandhok would not score again during the season, although he did finish in all but one of the races in the season. He ended up tied on points with Scott Speed and Franck Montagny, but finished behind them as he did not take a second place finish (where their points had been scored).
