Role Test/Reserve driver

Arthur Leclerc (born 14 October 2000 in Monte Carlo, Monaco) is a Monegasque racing driver, who serves as a test and reserve driver for the ROKiT Venturi Racing team in the 2019/20 ABB FIA Formula E Championship.[1] The younger brother of Formula One star Charles Leclerc, Leclerc initially signed up to be a founding member of the Venturi Next Gen Programme in March 2018, and was given a testing/development role in 2019.[2][1]

Background[]

Leclerc began his career in karting, following the path of elder brother Charles Leclerc, albeit with less initial success.[3] Regardless, the Monegasque youngster would graduate to the Championnat de France F4 in 2018, winning on his debut weekend.[3] Leclerc would go on to finish fifth with 199 points, and earn himself a promotion to the Formula 4 ADAC in 2019.[3][4]

A Brother's Protege[]

Leclerc was signed by the Sauber Junior Team in April 2019, who funded his move into the F4 ADAC series for that season.[4] A strong maiden campaign saw Leclerc claim one win and third in the Championship, and hence attract the attention of Scuderia Ferrari, the employers of his brother Charles.[3][5] Leclerc was duly inducted into the Ferrari driver academy in January 2020, and handed a seat in the 2020 Formula Regional European Championship.[5]

Formula E History[]

Leclerc's first involvement in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship came during the 2017/18 season, when the Monegasque driver became a founding member of the Venturi Next Gen Programme, designed to develop young drivers in electric racing.[2] As such Leclerc was given access to all of Venturi's simulators and personal development systems, and would attend several E-Prix to gain experience of how the team operated.[2] He retain his Next Gen status for the 2018/19 season with Venturi, and would get his first public test in a FE car at the 2019 Rookie Test.[6]

After out-pacing fellow Venturi development driver Norman Nato during the Rookie Test, Leclerc was retained by Venturi for the 2019/20 season.[1] The Monegasque racer would subsequently partner Nato at the 2020 Rookie Test, and receive a promotion to the team's reserve driver, a role he would share with the Frenchman.[1]
