1st Round Athletics, otherwise known simply as 1st Round, is an American sportswear manufacturer based in Marina del Rey, California, that specialises in using exotic materials in its products.[2] Part of the wider 1st Round Enterprises group, 1st Round Athletics were one of the first major sponsors of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, serving as the 'official apparel supplier' for the series from 2014 until 2017.[1][3]

Background[]

1st Round Enterprises was officially founded in 2009, when a group of students at the University of Southern California agreed to start a business together.[2] That group, namely Teague Egan, Riley Egan,, Zack Johnson, and Sterling Brewster would begin hosting parties and events, before starting a record label, 1st Round Records, in 2010.[2] The label's first artist, Sammy Adams, would subsequently climb to the top of the iTunes Hip Hop Chart later that year.[2]

1st Round subsequently expanded into the sports sector, with 1st Round Athletics formed in late 2013.[2] A crowd funding project would kickstart the firm's first sportswear line in 2014, which used exotic materials and minerals in an attempt to improve athletic performance.[2] Further investment in the Athletics' part of the firm saw the group sign Olympic sprinter Shawn Crawford as a brand ambassador, and open negotiations to sponsor a new electric racing series in late 2014.[2]

Formula E History[]

1st Round would become one of the first major sponsors of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship during the inaugural 2014/15 season, having entered talks with Formula E Holdings ahead of the 2014 Beijing ePrix.[1] A deal between FEH and 1st Round was subsequently announced on the 20 October 2014, with the American clothing firm revealed as the 'official apparel supplier' for Formula E.[1] 1st Round would be responsible for producing official FE merchandise such as polo shirts, sold by themselves and by FE.[1][2]

1st Round would continue as the 'official apparel supplier' of FE through until 2017, when the contract between the two would lapse.[3] Their role would be picked up by Hugo Boss ahead of the 2017/18 season, with 1st Round no longer supplying the series at all.[3]

Products[]

1st Round did not produce anything specifically for the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, barring some polo shirts sold by themselves and the series.[2]
